FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Murder suspect Mark Sievers did not appear in a Lee County courtroom for his arraignment Monday, but did enter a plea of not guilty.
This after recently getting new legal representation.
After being charged in the murder of his wife, Doctor Teresa Sievers, Mark Sievers initially retained private attorney Lee Hollander. But Hollander is no longer representing him. So a judge is now allowing the regional council to take over.
Originally, Sievers was assigned to the public defender's office, but there was a conflict of interest, since the public defender is also representing Jimmy Rodgers -- one of two men Sievers allegedly hired to kill his wife.
The other allegedly hired man, Curtis Wayne Wright, is serving a 25-year sentence after pleading guilty.
Monday morning Sievers' 'not guilty' plea was entered, and a new court date was set for May 18th.
