One dead, one injured in Fort Myers crash overnight

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Fort Myers Police are investigating a deadly crash from overnight.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on McGregor Boulevard near Cordova Avenue in Fort Myers.

Police say the crash involved just one car heading southbound on McGregor. They say two people were in the car at the time; one person died and the other is dealing with some injuries.

FMPD closed McGregor from Poinciana Avenue to Linhart Avenue for some time, but the roads are now back open.

**UPDATE (11:15am)** -- Police have identified the occupants of the car in Wednesday night's fatal crash.

26-year-olds Andrew Conlyn and Colten Hassut, both of Fort Myers.

Police say their car was traveling south on McGregor at a "high rate of speed" when it veered off the road and hit two trees and a utility pole.

Hassut died at the scene, and Conlyn suffered minor injuries.

Drugs and/or alcohol are suspected as a factor in the crash.

Police are still investigating and criminal charges are pending.
