Motorcyclist dead in Lehigh Acres collision

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Troopers say a motorcyclist was speeding Tuesday when he crashed into a car on Joel Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

It happened at 3:47 PM Tuesday at the intersection with Joel Way.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Lewis Joy of Lehigh Acres was operating his motorcycle over the speed limit as he headed eastbound on Joel Boulevard.

As he approached Joel Way, a car pulled out to make a left turn and the motorcycle crashed into the car's left rear side.  Joy was thrown from the motorcycle and onto the roadway, where he died from his injuries.

He was wearing a helmet.

No charges have been filed on the car's driver.  He and another passenger in the car suffered serious injuries and were taken to Lehigh Regional Medical Center.
