COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Fort Myers man is in critical condition after a freak accident on Interstate 75 Tuesday.
61-year-old Salvatore Lumia, Jr. was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital after the incident.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Lumia was headed southbound on I-75 just past the Immokalee Road exit, near mile marker 110, shortly before 7pm Tuesday. That's when troopers say a northbound car suffered a mechanical issue and lost a wheel.
The wheel traveled across the median and hit the front of Lumia's motorcycle.
No charges have been filed.
