Report: Man shot by Naples officer had a knife

Naples Police say the man shot by a police officer Friday evening was brandishing a knife.  He is being treated at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers.  

The Naples Police Officer shot a man after responding to a domestic violence call at Cove Inn on Naples Bay, 900 Broad Avenue South, according to a report.

It happened Friday evening at approximately 6:45 p.m.

While officers were conducting the initial investigation, the male subject involved in the domestic violence dispute wielded a weapon. He was then shot by police.

The male subject, who has not been identified, was conscious and breathing when transported to the Lee Memorial Hospital via Medflight. 

The officer involved involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, according to a report.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigation the incident.
