COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Naples police officer has been fired for allegedly lying during two internal investigations, including the disappearance of a gun belonging to the ex-husband of former officer Amy Young.
Russell Ayers, an 18-year veteran of the force, was uncooperative during an investigation into the theft of Sergeant Robert Young's pistol in November 2014. And while taking a polygraph exam, he reportedly tried to use countermeasures to beat the test.
Investigators also believe Ayers lied when he was accused the husband of Amy Young of being a criminal and having something to do with the shooting that injured her and killed officer Dave Monroig.
