Naples residents react to Trump comments about M

Posted

The mood was festive at the Naples Christmas parade Tuesday, but some folks weren't so cheerful about Donald Trump.

"That statement by itself, is outlandish," Berne Belton said about Trump's remarks that no Muslims should be allowed into the United States.

The GOP front runner for president made the comments a week after 14 people were murdered in California by who police say were ISIS sympathizers.

Belton says although Trump may have gone too far, he is brining the issue of Domestic terrorism to the fore front.

"If a US citizen decides he's going to go live in Syria for six months, and then come on back, that's somebody that I would like our government to take a real hard look at before we let him back in to see what he was doing there, why he went."

But others say Trump has gone too far and aren't sure how such a policy can be enforced.

"Ask everyone in this country are you Muslim?  It's like asking are you baptist, are you protestant?  It's terrible," said Andrea Riendeau.

"Since his statements target a specific group of people for their race or religion, his view/opinion does not reflect who we are as an organization or as a party," said a spokesman for the Young Republicans of Southwest Florida in a statement.

Fox-4 reached out to the Trump campaign for comment, but have yet to hear back.
