Lots of eighth-graders in Mentor went to bed with sad faces Tuesday night after hearing their trip to Washington D.C. — set to leave the very next day — had been canceled by the company handling the trip.
Discovery Tours told Mentor Public Schools it had to cancel the trip because the company was unable to receive final confirmation for the hotel rooms.

Those sad eighth-grade faces may have brightened a little Wednesday afternoon when the Cavaliers heard about their letdown and sent an invitation their way.
The Cavs reached out to Mentor Public Schools to invite all eighth-grade students, including the ones who were not going on the trip, to attend Thursday night's watch party at The Q. The Cavs are providing transportation and $15 food vouchers for all students and staff chaperones.
The district said it is still working to arrange additional events that will be memorable for the students in lieu of no D.C. trip.
