Republican Francis Rooney won district 19 in the U.S. House of Representatives, Tuesday.
The Naples business man beat democratic opponent Robert Neeld. The seat was previously held by Curt Clawson, who did not seek reelection.
Moving forward, Rooney said he wants to focus on Southwest Florida's economy. "I know a lot about creating jobs," he said "I look forward to working with our community leaders and state legislatures and local leaders and our universities and colleges to create environments where people can go to school here and stay here and get a good job."
Rooney also said cleaning up Southwest Florida's waterways is a top priority.
