LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Republicans and Democrats will be hitting the polls statewide and nationwide on Tuesday to select their party's nominees for several races in November.
Florida is a Closed Primary Election State, so in primary elections, registered voters can only vote for their registered party’s candidates in a partisan contest on the ballot.
However, in a primary election, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote on any nonpartisan contest or issue.
Some of the key position up for election this year are Florida Governor, with Governor Rick Scott stepping down due to term limits; U.S. Senator, with incumbent Bill Nelson hoping to get elected to a fourth term; Attorney General; and Commissioner of Agriculture.
Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. Florida law requires that you provide a picture and signature identification at the polls and prohibits a voter from voting in a precinct in which the voter does not reside.
