Florida deputies investigating lightning strike death

SIESTA KEY, Fla. — Sarasota County deputies in Florida are investigating the death of a person they say was struck by lightning.

It happened Saturday afternoon around 2:15 p.m. on the beach behind the Palm Bay Club on Siesta Key.

Deputies said visiting first responders and lifeguards provided first aid.

The person was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Detectives are investigating the death.

They say they will provide an update when they can release more information.
