The Pentagon announced Monday that 15 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay have been released to the United Arab Emirates. According to ABC News and CNN, the transfer is the largest during President Obama’s administration.
The 15 prisoners include 12 Yemeni and three Afghans, all of which had been cleared for transfer after extensive investigations.
Barack Obama has stated throughout two terms as president that he intends to close the prison, most recently in February. The Pentagon says 61 prisoners remain at Guantanamo Bay.
