Needles found on Cape Coral playground

Posted

CAPE CORAL, FLA.- After parents reportedly found needles on the ground at Jim Jeffers Park, one Cape Coral mom told Fox 4 they're being extra careful.

"You have to be careful at every park you go to. I don't think it's the first incident that's been reported in the area."

How often is this happening? Fox 4 went to Cape Coral police to find out. Sergeant Dana Coston said these calls aren't uncommon, in Cape Coral or any other city in Southwest Florida.  "Sometimes people will go to the parks late at night to do their drugs and they'll discard baggies or needles or whatever else it may be."

Police do everything they can to stop it. "Officers go through the parks throughout the day and throughout the night. Every so often we stumble upon people who are there when they shouldn't be, and if an arrest needs to be made, an arrest is made."

There's no need to avoid parks and playgrounds. Police say our parks are safe, and regularly patrolled by park rangers.

Sergeant Coston warns to just be careful and if you see anything suspicious, call police.
