The nine-year-old pitbull who faced severe neglect and abuse was put down this weekend, and the organization that rescued her is starting a foundation in her honor.

Brandi spent her entire life neglected to the point where she developed several terminal illnesses, including cancer.

She was found with her hip bones protruding and her ribs poking through her skin. Her rescuers at Pure Hearts Rescue believe she never lived inside of a home until a woman named Tammy Henry became her foster mother.

Sadly, Brandi's suffering became too mcuh to bear, and she was put down over the weekend.

One bright spot in this heartbreaking story: Pure Hearts Rescue has created a foundation in Brandi's honor. It's called "Brandi's Legacy - a Hospice Dog Program."

The program helps Pure Hearts Rescue care for hospice cases like Brandi. The foundation will help cover the costs of advanced veterinary care.
