New high school location expected to be decided

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A clash between residents and the Lee County School Board is expected to be settled Tuesday night, as the school district is set to finally decide where the new Bonita Springs high school will go.

Two locations are on the table: one along Bonita Beach Road east of I-75, and another on Imperial Parkway at Shangri-La Road, which is the location the school district prefers.

This is going to be the biggest thing on the school board's agenda.

The school's location has not been an easy find.  The mayor of Bonita Springs says it's the third-largest city in Lee County and they need a high school. Residents don't disagree, but a group of nearby homeowners near Imperial Parkway are considering legal action to block that site, claiming a school will cause noise and traffic problems.

But the district says that site on Imperial, which costs $11 million, makes the most sense for the new high school.

That Lee County School Board meeting will be taking place at 6:00 PM in Fort Myers.
