Novelty alarm clock lands woman in jail

SHORT PUMP, VA—A trip to the grocery store has landed a Virginia mother in jail.

Daphne Page was shopping Friday when someone passed by her car.

Police say that person noticed what they thought was bomb sitting in the back seat.

Officers swarmed the parking lot, using a bomb robot to determine the device was a fake.

Page said the device was a novelty alarm clock she bought at a yard sale for a dollar.

After five hours investigating, officers arrested and charged page with constructing or using a hoax firebomb.

But this former substitute teacher says she`s not entirely to blame.

"It was available on the market,” said Page. “If it`s legal to sell why shouldn`t it be legal for me to have it?"

because of the severity of the charge, page was not granted any bond.

She's scheduled to appear before a judge Monday.
