CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- We're learning more about a Cape Coral Police officer who crashed and flipped his cruiser while responding to a call Sunday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the officer was driving north on Santa Barbara Boulevard at 7:44pm Sunday, with its lights and sirens on.  The officer was driving through a red light at an intersection on the way to a fatal accident, when another car drove into the intersection.

The officer swerved to avoid a crash, but flipped his cruiser in the process.

The police car then hit a parked truck in the Suncoast Credit Union parking lot.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  The other driver was uninjured.  A person sitting inside the parked vehicle was also uninjured.

No word on whether charges are pending in this case.
