CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Police say a child was transported to the hospital after being struck by a car.

It happened Saturday just west of Adams street in Charlotte County.

Officials say Neveah Jearles, 9, rode her bike directly into the path of an oncoming car.

The driver, Jean Noel, 44, collided with the bicyclists.

The driver then took evasive action by turning to the left.

Family members of the bicyclist came out of the house at the residence and began to hit the driver's car, causing damage that did not occur from the crash.

Police arrested one subject at the scene for an outstanding warrant and a charge of vandalism.

The child, who suffered minor injuries, was transported to Bayfront Health Port Charlotte.

No charges have been made at this time.
