FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The search continues for the person behind a shooting at an East Fort Myers hotel that sent one man to the hospital overnight.

Lee County deputies say it happened just after 2 a.m. at the Palm Beach Motel off Palm Beach Boulevard and Fairfax Road, in the Tice neighborhood of Fort Myers.

The crime scene unit focused their attention on a door filled with bullet holes, just outside the room Lionel says he first saw the victim.  "He came out the room, I was riding my bike, he came out the room and said 'somebody call the ambulance and police.  I've been shot.'"

That shooting left the victim in the hospital as investigators marked evidence in their search for a suspect.

Lionel got pictures taken and questioned by police but says he's not involved.  "All I was doing is what he asked me, that was it. You know I didn't see nothing else, and I just hope he makes it."

But staying alive just isn't so easy, according to some who live there.  "You can be on your way home from work and get shot....and they don't solve these."

As red and blue lights reflect off the motel's sign early Wednesday, investigators worked through to sunrise to make sure this shooting doesn't go unsolved.

"Cops need to stop worrying about the little things and take care of more bigger things, like shootings for instance, drug deals...they need to stop worrying about someone riding their bike without a light."

In the meantime, if you know anything, you're urged to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
