BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said a single-engine plane crashed overnight, killing the pilot.

The crash occurred just east of U.S. 27 about seven miles north of Alligator Alley in unincorporated Broward County.

Early Monday morning, BSO learned from Civil Air Patrol the plane had gone missing after taking off Sunday night.  They began searching for the plane and again at daybreak Monday morning.

The wreckage was located just before 7 a.m. after C.A.P. located the crash site and directed BSO Aviation Unit to the location.

BSO Marine Unit and fire rescue arrived at the site and confirmed the single occupant of the plane had died.

The sheriff’s office said the cause of the crash will be investigated by NTSB.
