FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy was on the onramp to I-75 northbound on Alico Road when he came across a large gator crossing the road.

The deputy pulled over and got on the radio to call for a trapper from Florida Fish and Wildlife.

The gator measured approximately 9 feet 5 inches long.

FWC says warm spring weather means that the American alligator becomes more active and visible and begins gator mating season.
