LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Lee county is tied as the state's top recycling spot.

Last year, the county recycled one-and-a-half million tons of the total one-point-96 million tons of waste generated.

The amount lee recycled would be enough to fill 107 football fields with material 70 feet high that is as high as the tallest point of the Sanibel
bridge.

Florida has a recycling goal of 75% by 2020.

Lee county tied with Charlotte county for a 77% annual recycling rate.
