LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Florida Fish and Wildlife says there won't be another bear hunt in Florida, at least for the foreseeable future.
Commissioners updated their bear management plan, but it does not include a hunt.
Instead, FWC staff will focus on reducing human-bear conflicts by using bear-resistant trash cans and removing bears that pose a safety threat.
FWC allowed a brief hunting season in 2015, during which 304 bears were killed by hunters.
Florida's black bear population is currently estimated at just over 4,000 bears.
