LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lee County Board of County Commissioners has voted to accept a grant that will help improve the gopher tortoise habitat at the Telegraph Creek Preserve.

A fund of $6,450 was given from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to improve the habitat. It will be used to clear undergrowth on 43 acres, which will allow the animals to better forage and burrow.

$1,620 was also given by the FWC and will be used to develop materials to help educate visitors of the preserve about the tortoises and their habitat.
