New requirements to reduce risk of 'Zombie Deer' implemented

FWC is issuing new hunting regulations to help prevent the spread of a zombie-like disease affecting deer.

The disease is called chronic wasting disease, and it is a transmissible disease of the nervous system that's fatal to deer, elk, moose, and other members of the deer family.

FWC issued an executive order that prevents importing deer carcasses into the state from anywhere except for legally harvested white-tailed deer from Georgia or Alabama.

The new hunting regulations go into effect Friday.
