ALVA, Fla. — A Red Shouldered Hawk can fly thanks again to The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW).

The Hawk was found in a field in Alva, unable to fly.

After carefully examining the Hawk, a large necrotic would with maggots was found.

Further examinations revealed the wound was a result of a gunshot.

The bullet entered through its back just to the right of the spine.

The bullet went through the lungs and chest, broke the coracoid bone, and landed in the muscle just in front of the right shoulder.

The patient has been receiving pain medications and antibiotics throughout its stay.

The wound was treated, and the Hawk remained on strict bedrest.

The Red-Shouldered Hawk recovered, and CROW credits veterinary intern, Dr. Cabot, and the rest of the staff, students, and volunteers.
