GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- A 20-year-old University of Florida student from was run over and killed by a garbage truck Friday morning near campus, Gainesville police reported.
Police say Abigail Dougherty from Punta Gorda was riding her bike on Northwest 17th Street, attempting to cross West University Avenue when the garbage truck hit her, while attempting to turn onto University Avenue.
She was described as a student heavily involved in community service.
