Residents to request sidewalks after mom killed

Posted

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- People in the South Gulf Cove area of Port Charlotte are calling for changes to roads in their community, days after a mother was hit and killed while pushing a baby in stroller.

It happened Friday morning on Appleton Boulevard near Bay State Drive.

Troopers say 35-year-old Mariah Klinefeller was killed after she and her baby were hit by an SUV while walking alongside the road. The baby remains in serious, but stable condition.

People in the area say sidewalks could prevent future tragedies.  Tuesday, the president of the homeowner's association and residents are expected to ask commissioners to consider using gas tax funds to fund these sidewalks.
