Sanibel shooting is fifth incident of violence against Lee County law enforcement this month

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Sunday night's shooting incident that left a Sanibel officer injured is at least the fifth violent encounter this month involving law enforcement in Lee County.

Last Wednesday evening, Lee County deputies responded to a disturbance in Pine Manor, when 24-year-old Rones Sagesse is accused of exchanging gunfire with deputies and then taking off.  It took 8 hours before deputies were finally able to find him and bring him into custody.

Last Monday, investigators say a chase on I-75, ended when Edward Strother got out of his car and attacked a Lee County deputy.  Investigators say a bystander saw the fight, got out of his car, and shot and killed Strother -- potentially saving the deputy's life.

On November 8th, Bryan Rivera allegedly fought and bit Lee County deputies on I-75 after first speeding off from a traffic stop. It reportedly took five deputies and multiple taser shots to finally subdue him.

And days before that, Bobby Sibert was charged with violently resisting Fort Myers police during a traffic stop near Ford street.
