Search for Diana Alvarez expands in Central Florida

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Polk County investigators now say they are no longer assisting in the search for 9-year-old Diana Alvarez.  This comes after we learned Wednesday that they were involved in a search in Central Florida for the missing Lee County girl.

The suspect in her disappearance, 28-year-old Jorge Guerrero, remains in jail on a child porn charge.

Court documents show Guerrero's phone was near Diana's home in the hours she went missing. The phone then traveled to Yeehaw Junction in Okeechobee County before it was ditched along a road in Orlando.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office was helping Lee County deputies and state agents search for clues this week in the Grape Hammock area, off Highway 60 near Lake Kissimmee, about 20 miles west of Yeehaw Junction.

There is still an active Amber Alert out for Diana, who went missing from her San Carlos Park home on May 29th.
