Serious crash closes Jones Loop Road in Punta Gorda

UPDATE #2 -- Troopers have released details of Monday morning's crash on Jones Loop Road.

Troopers say a pickup truck headed eastbound on Jones Loop ran a red light and smashed into a westbound work truck that was making a left turn on a green arrow.

Two of the six people in the work truck suffered serious injuries, the other four people suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, 23-year-old Chelsea Jeffries of Punta Gorda, suffered minor injuries in the crash. She was cited for disregarding a red traffic signal.

UPDATE -- FHP reports that Jones Loop Road has fully reopened and traffic is moving again.  No further details are available yet.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Multiple rescue crews have responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Jones Loop Road in Punta Gorda.

The crash happened just after 8am at the intersection with Knights Drive, just west of the interstate.

According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, two vehicles were involved in the crash -- a pickup truck with a single occupant, and a landscape work truck with six people.  

Multiple injuries are reported, including a possible fatality.  Two trauma helicopters were called to the scene.

The crash has forced the closure of Jones Loop Road between Taylor Road and Interstate 75.

Avoid the area if possible this morning.
