LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Lee County Staff has informed the organizers for Slide the City that Lee County Administration has denied its permit request.
Staffers with Lee County say the Slide the City event is not consistent with the type of event that would be allowed in one of the county's community parks, which is what Veterans Park is.
They also say events of large size file an application for a special event permit well in advance of selling tickets. Originally when the event was first advertised, it was marketed as being held on a non-county property. Only recently did organizers announce plans to consider Veterans Park as an event site.
The event was originally advertised to take place on the Edison Bridge in Fort Myers, but was changed to Veterans Park after the company cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for the change.
