MIAMI, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis announced the signing of several pieces of legislation Monday morning from Freedom Tower in Miami.
The event was dubbed "Honoring Victims of Communism," as described by a placard at DeSantis' podium. Additional speakers at the event included Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez and Senator Manny Diaz.
Legislation being signed will ensure the history of Communist ideology and world leaders including Mao Zedong, Josef Stalin and Pol Pot, and atrocities connected to their regimes will be communicated in Florida history classes.
A 'Victims of Communism' day will also be observed in November throughout the state.
DeSantis also announced additional funding for the maintenance and refurbishment at Freedom Tower.
