Florida cities earn top LGBT-inclusivity rating

Posted

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Orlando was one of three Florida cities to score a perfect score in a rating system that judges cities' inclusiveness toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1T5Icxr ) reports Human Rights Campaign's "Municipal Equality Index," released Tuesday, awarded Orlando, St. Petersburg and Wilton Manors perfect scores of 100. The cities were three of 47 municipalities nationwide that earned the top possible score. The annual rating judged a total of 408 municipalities across the nation.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer says the rating demonstrates the progress Orlando has made and validates the city's commitment to have an inclusive government.

The score judged municipalities in five categories: non-discrimination laws, employment policies, city services, law enforcement and municipal leadership.
