Florida deputy pulls crying woman from edge of bridge

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida sheriff's deputy pulled a woman off the edge of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, likely saving her life.

A Pinellas County Sheriff's news release says Corp. Howard "Glenn" Finley was driving home from work Monday when he saw a car parked along the bridge over Tampa Bay and a woman sitting on the ledge, her legs dangling over the water.

Finley says the woman's hands covered her face. He parked his vehicle, approached the woman undetected and was able to grab her and pull her away from the edge.

The news release says Finley detained the 52-year-old woman while she cried, "Please let me die, let me jump."

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper arrived and took the woman into protective custody under the Baker Act.
