BRADENTON, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis announced reforms for Florida's Higher Education in a press conference in Bradenton on Tuesday.

He was joined by Chancellor Ray Rodrigues, State University System of Florida.

Governor DeSantis outlined proposals to continue to improve opportunities for students, faculty, and families.

He talked about no tuition increase since he became governor and how they will continue to work to keep it affordable.

Right now he says Florida has the lowest tuition and fees in the country.

Today Governor DeSantis unveiled his plan to empower boards and presidents, budget recommendations, and his idea to develop world-class civics institutes at universities.

Governor DeSantis Education Reform Proposal

  • Under the proposal, he is requesting $15 million for faculty and student recruitment at the New College of Florida which includes $10 million recurring annually.
  • Also $100 million for the recruitment and retention of highly qualified faculty at state universities.
