TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A group representing greyhound owners and breeders in Florida has filed a lawsuit in hopes of blocking a measure on the November ballot that could spell the end of the sport in the state.
The Florida Greyhound Association filed the lawsuit in Leon County court on Thursday, saying the title and summary of the proposed Amendment 13 fails to meet the state's legal standard.
The title of the proposed amendment says that it would end dog racing. The association says that it would not ban parimutuel facilities from carrying races from out-of-state tracks.
The measure, which is one of eight proposed by the Constitutional Revision Commission that is on the ballot, would prohibit tracks in Florida from racing dogs in connection with wagering.
