Officer convicted of stealing liquor

MIRAMAR, Fla. (AP) - A suspended Miramar police officer has been found guilty of stealing liquor from three women suspected of stealing items from a drug store.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1mXrgPa) a jury convicted 37-year-old Antonio Hester on Wednesday of official misconduct, falsifying a police report and petit theft.

Witnesses say Hester found the women at a gas station after responding to a drug store's theft call in 2013.

Prosecutor Nykeah Cohen says instead of arresting them, Hester flipped a coin to determine their fate and decided to let them go, after taking two bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label scotch.

Hester says he later returned the alcohol to the women after going to the store, where employees say the liquor wasn't part of their inventory.

Hester's sentencing is in February.
