Stoneman Douglas teacher arrested, faces gun charge

Posted

A chemistry teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is facing gun charges this morning.

Police say Sean Simpson left his gun in a public restroom. After the deadly school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, the teacher volunteered to be one of the staff members trained to carry guns on campus.

According to police, Simpson, who has a concealed carry permit, left his loaded gun in the restroom at Deerfield Beach Pier.

A few minutes later, a homeless man picked up the gun and fired it. No one was hurt.

This recent incident has some student's uneasy about him volunteering to carry a weapon on campus.
Now some students are saying... That's not such a good idea.

"If you're going to volunteer, then if anything you should be even more extra careful to hold onto a gun," said Daniel Snell Stoneman Douglas student. He went on to say, "if this became an enforced policy, give it to the teachers with a track record of not forgetting things."

Simpson was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm. He is not currently facing any punishment from the school district.
