GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Two Florida police officers were in the right place at the right time to help save a choking infant.
Police spokesman Ben Tobias says officers Dylan Hayes-Morrison and Amanda Cummings were searching for a suspect in Gainesville on Wednesday when someone handed the 3-week-old unconscious baby to them. The little boy was red in the face and not breathing.
Tobias says the child apparently choked on formula. Once the officers cleared the baby's airway, he started breathing again.
Medics took the baby to the hospital. Tobias didn't know who handed the baby to the police officers.
Tobias credits the officers for having the composure "to provide live saving measures to a dying infant."
