Sniper rifle stolen from SWAT detective's car in North Port

NORTH PORT, Fla. -- A SWAT team member has had several pieces of equipment stolen from his vehicle, which was left unlocked overnight.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says an Internal Affairs investigation has been launched.

According to SCSO, Detective Brian Keane left his vehicle unlocked at his North Port home Monday night. Sometime overnight, a suspect or suspects entered his vehicle and removed two firearms and several pieces of specialized equipment. The agency says Keane, an 18-year veteran of the force, is a member of the SWAT team and keeps specialty weapons, including a sniper rifle, in his car.
