ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A teenage student is recovering in a hospital after lighting struck a nearby tree at an Orlando school during lunchtime.

Orlando Fire Department spokeswoman Ashley Papagni said in a statement that the 14-year-old student was shocked Tuesday afternoon at The First Academy while standing in a parking lot near the tree.

Officials say the unidentified teenager was conscious when paramedics arrived. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

WFTV-TV (http://at.wftv.com/2bq1s9X ) reports that the school has two lightning strike detection systems. School officials did not say whether the systems were working when the lightning hit.
