Worker crushed by concrete wall at water plant

Posted

VENICE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a worker at a southwest Florida waste water facility was killed when a concrete wall collapsed on top of him.

Interim Venice Police Chief Thomas Mattmuller told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (http://goo.gl/wvUpkl ) that the 35-year-old man was involved in demolition work at the City of Venice Eastside Water Reclamation Facility on Thursday when the wall fell. The man's name wasn't immediately released, but officials say he was working for a contractor, Graber Excavating and Demolition.

Assistant City Manager Len Bramble said parts of the facility are being torn down so it can be rebuilt with more capacity.

Local officials and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
