PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The search continues for a suspect who led deputies on a manhunt following a strong arm robbery.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's office, the suspect is accused of robbing someone who was walking along Catherine Avenue in Port Charlotte Thursday.

Deputies say they later tracked down a vehicle matching a description of the suspect.

A witness who was working on roof nearby says he saw two men exit the vehicle.

"I heard the cops come by with just the 'bloop bloop' and a grey car, I believe it was a KIA, rushed into the yard there," said William Rose.

Deputies say they stopped the vehicle along  Glendale Ave. Rose told Fox 4, moments after one of the suspects took off on foot.

"The driver immediately threw his hands up and kind of surrendered and the other guy just kind of bolted, didn't even think twice about it," said Rose.

According to Rose, roughly a dozen squad vehicles created a perimeter around the Port Charlotte neighborhood. He says deputies used a chopper and K-9 to assist in the search.

"They didn't see him jump over a fence behind the house next door to where the pulled into. i tried yelling at the officers that he had started heading in the opposite direction they were going but they couldn't hear me up on the roof," said Rose

The suspect is described as a black male with dread locks, and was wearing camo clothing at the time of the incident.

"With the helicopter and the dogs they had out i thought for sure they would have caught him or found whatever contraband he was trying to get away with," said Rose.
