Suspect shot with own gun during drug deal gone bad

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fort Myers Police are investigating a home invasion that ended with the suspect being shot with his own gun.

It happened around midnight Tuesday in the 3000 block of Franklin Court in the Dunbar community.

According to police, 22-year-old Alphonso James went to the home to purchase narcotics.  But during the transaction, James pulled out a gun and demanded money and drugs.

James and 20-year-old Alfred Card then began fighting, and Card took control of the gun and shot James.

A child and two women were also reportedly inside at the time but were not hurt.

James is recovering at Lee Memorial Hospital, with charges pending his release.

Card is facing charges of drug possession and child neglect.
