FORT MYERS, Fla.- Employees with White Sands treatment center in Fort Myers say more and more people are making it their New Year's resolution  to get clean.

Brandon Short with White Sands said they've seen between 30-45 new patients in the first week of 2016.

"This year with the increase in heroin specifically in opiates, in heroin we have seen an increase in admission but also with drugs and alcohol this time of year," Short said.

Short said that the first step is admitting addiction to yourself. Then, he said it's important to let your family know and then get professional help. He said you should also tear yourself away from other users and surround yourself with support.
