Tire thieves sought after incident at dealership

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying two men who stripped the tires off two Land Rovers early Sunday morning.

According to Crime Stoppers, just after midnight on Sunday, two men wearing dark clothing strolled through the car lot of a Jaguar dealership on S. Tamiami Trail.  About an hour later, at 1:20 a.m., surveillance video shows one of the men removing the tires from a 2016 Land Rover, leaving the vehicle sitting on its rotors.  Less than 20 minutes later, the man walked across the lot and repeated the same process on a 2014 Land Rover, again leaving the car grounded.

While he was finishing up, a white Dodge van, with the license plate removed from the rear, pulled into the dealership and the driver picked up the tires from the 2016 Land Rover.  Around 2:20 a.m., the same van returned to the lot, with an unidentified man loading up the tires from the 2014 vehicle.

In total, the value of the tires from the two Land Rovers is estimated at $7,000.

This is the second time this dealership has experienced a theft of this nature, although it’s unknown if the suspects from this incident were involved with the previous incident.

Anyone with information on the men involved in the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
