Congressmen talk funding for Herbert Hoover Dike repairs

Posted

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.-- Florida Congressmen Francis Rooney and Mario Diaz-Balart say the money is there to fix the Herbert Hoover Dike.

During a meeting in Naples, it was revealed there is over a billion dollars in federal funding. $700 million of that will go toward the repairs on the dike. The rest will go to the Everglades Reservoir Project, but more money is needed for the project.

"A lot of other states want money," says Congressman Francis Rooney. "And for every dollar we get, there is some guy on Lake Superior in Chesapeake Bay that didn't get a dollar. So we need to continue to stay on message, work together and get all the resources to get the reservoir built as fast as possible."

The Everglades Reservoir Project, will move more water south and put less in the Caloosahatchee River. It will take 7 to 8 years to finish.
