Gov. Scott responds to Sen. Nelson algae attack ad

Posted

CAPE CORAL, Fla.-- Senator Bill Nelson has launched an attack ad against Governor Scott, blaming him for the algae crisis.

The ad claims Governor Scott caused the crisis by softening environmental regulations. Four in your corner spoke to Governor at a campaign stop in Cape Coral, on September 4th, 2018. He said Senator Nelson should have done more when President Obama was in office.

"He promised 30 years ago in a campaign ad he would do something about the algae. He did nothing," said Governor Scott. "When I went to Obama year after year, after year to get funding for the dike at Lake Ockeechobee, which is a federal project, he did nothing."

In response to those accusations, the Nelson campaign says the governor's rollback of environmental regulations is the main cause of algae in Southwest Florida.
