With Algal blooms spreading in South Florida waters State agencies have stepped up their monitoring efforts.
Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as well as the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) routinely sample algal blooms when they are observed.

The state’s algal blooms response team encourages residents to report algal blooms.

  • To report a bloom in Lake Okeechobee or the St. Lucie or Caloosahatchee rivers, contact DEP’s Kalina Warren at 407-897-4177.
  • To report human illness or for information on health advisories, contact your local county health department.
  • To report a fish kill, contact FWC’s Fish Kill Hotline at 800-636-0511.
